UPDATE: Police are investigating possible links between an attempted armed robbery of the Federal Hotel and break and enter of a Cambooya service station.
Investigations into the two offences are continuing, with an appeal for information into the incidents which occurred this morning.
Three men smashed a glass door at the United Petroleum store on the New England Highway at Cambooya about 1am.
Police believe the incident could be connected to an attempted armed robbery of the Federal Hotel in Toowoomba about 4.20am.
EARLIER: POLICE are searching for three people who trashed a highway service station when efforts to steal an ATM failed.
The trio broke into the United Petroleum store on the New England Highway in Cambooya about 1am, smashing through glass to get inside.
Grainy CCTV recorded the trio's efforts to get into an ATM in the store which was extensively damaged when their efforts failed.
The group then got behind the counter at the store and tried to get inside the cash register before they trashed the office area.
Police said a fire extinguisher was also deployed in the store, blanketing it in a white foam.
The group fled the store in a vehicle which has not yet been identified.
Scenes of Crime officers were expected to return to the store today.
Criminal Investigation Branch detectives are investigating.
