QUEENSLAND Opposition leader Deb Frecklington has called on the Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to explain why two state-run aged care facilities failed their accreditation audit in the last year.

The Chroniclerevealed in October last year that the Dr E A F McDonald nursing home in Oakey had failed to meet nine accreditation standards after a visit from the Australian Aged Care Quality Agency, and was issued with a non-compliance notice from the Federal Government.

A second visit from AACQA in November 2017 showed the home had fixed the issues identified.

AACQA has reported 15 facilities around the state had failed to meet accreditation standards in the last year.

Mrs Frecklington said Queenslanders would not accept a situation where profits are put before people.

"It's a real concern for anyone with relatives in Queensland nursing care facilities to hear that 15 homes have failed to meet the standards we expect when it comes to caring for our elderly Queenslanders," she said.

"We should be looking after our seniors, not treating them like second-class citizens.

"One of my priorities as LNP leader is to provide better services across our entire healthcare system.

"Annastacia Palaszczuk must explain why two state-run facilities didn't make the grade and what is being done about it."
