Churches across the Far North will welcome parishioners to celebrate one of the holiest weeks in the religious calendar.

Families across the Far North will flock to churches of all denominations this weekend to commemorate one of the most significant times on their religious calendar.

While many residents will enjoy a sleep in and chocolate eggs, church leaders said they looked forward to welcoming parishioners and visitors to their services.

For Cairns bishop Joe Caddy, the Easter story was one of hope — spanning thousands of years.

“Every human being faces limitations and frailty, no matter how much we want to avoid it, we’re going to get sick, to fall, to face death and suffering,” Fr Caddy said.

“God looks at all of that and says, well, the world has thrown the worst of its evil, but the power of my love is greater than that, and will overcome it and overwhelm it, and that holds out for all of us.”

He welcomed all members of the community to attend their nearest service.

“(Easter) holds out a sense of hope, even when things can look pretty grim at times,” he said.
