Calling on King Charles’ famous love of the environment and climate activism, Tropical Tourism North Queensland CEO Mark Olsen has called for His Majesty to tour Far North Queensland on his proposed visit to Australia later this year.

Mr Olsen, who also called for Taylor Swift to visit the region during the Australian leg of her Era’s Tour, said he would like to see His Majesty back in the tropical north after his last visit in 2018.

“If you know anything about the King, he is one of the leading monarchs around the world with an aspiration for a much more sustainable and globally sensitive world,” Mr Olsen said.

“We would say King Charles, the world’s oldest tropical rainforest remains absolutely stunning. We’d love to see you both yourself and (Queen) Camilla here in our tropical rainforests, the oldest in the world and most spectacular, and in summertime. It’s a great time to see it when the waterfalls are in full flow.”

The bid follows an upward trend in Far North tourism in both regional and domestic markets, with Mr Olsen confident the region was on track to reach pre-pandemic tourism numbers.

“Pre-pandemic, the international tourism market injected over a billion dollars per annum into this economy,” he said.

“Our international recovery is on track to a full recovery in 2025, but the only way we’re going to do that is with the full support of the state and federal governments and with our industry all working together.”

It comes as Tourism and Events Queensland host its Global Market Briefing in Cairns to discuss marketing strategies with local tourism operators.

“With the support of the federal government. We’ve seen a really strong recovery in 2023 with up to about 60% of our pre-Covid numbers and it out is our bold aspiration to be back to a billion dollar international visitor economy in 2025,” he said.
