Far North Queensland’s best hair dresser has revealed her top tips to keeping luscious locks.
Tegan Kelly, owner and manager of Salon South Mt Sheridan, has been voted FNQ’s best hairdresser by Cairns Post readers.
Ms Kelly, who has been with the business for almost 15 years said she was grateful for the support of her clients who helped her nab top spot.
“I’m so, so grateful and humbled that we have got the support of our local clients because they are the whole reason we do what we do and we’re always so grateful to them,” Ms Kelly said.
Ms Kelly said she had been a shareholder in the salon for 14 years, but took over the business in 2019 with plans to rebrand which was hampered by the Covid pandemic.
“After Covid I was able to continue with my plan and then I did the rebrand and that’s how Salon South was born.”
Running the business has been a dream come true for the beauty stylist who, even as a child, knew she wanted to work creatively.
“Ever since I was little, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do,” she said.
“I’m just inspired by the creativity and how I can make everyone feel good.”
Ms Kelly said Salon South was more than a beauty salon, but a place for clients to feel connected.
“We have an umbrella in the hair and beauty industry where offer all services for hairdressing, skin care, lash extensions, spray tanning – so we’re basically a hub on the south side where everyone can come under the one roof to get all their hair and beauty needs,” she said.
“Our success is due to having a great team behind us and loyal clientele because without the returning ones we wouldn’t be here.”
Sharing her best hair care tip, Ms Kelly reiterated the importance of patience.
“Remember that great hair doesn’t happen overnight – it happens by booking appointment with your stylist.”
