Police allege Cairns man swapped vapes and drugs for sex

A Cairns man accused of swapping vapes and drugs for explicit images and sex acts with underage girls has been held in custody following a brief mention of his case in a Cairns court.

A lengthy police investigation has led to the arrest of a Bayview Heights man accused of swapping vapes and drugs for explicit images and sex acts with underage girls.

Officers from Cairns Child Protection Investigation Unit charged the 21-year-old Bayview Heights man on Saturday, February 24.

Police allege between January and September 2023 Jonathon Eric William Riddick was involved in multiple offences against several girls.

During a raid of the Mr Riddick’s Bayview Heights home, police allege dangerous drugs and child exploitation material were found.

Mr Riddick was charged with a total of forty-two charges including distributing child exploitation material, making child exploitation material, carnal knowledge, using a carriage service to procure, breach of bail, possess drugs, possess explosives, and assault police.

Police refused bail and Mr Riddick’s case was heard in Cairns Magistrates Court on Monday, however he did not appear in person.

The duty lawyer for Mr Riddick requested a brief of evidence on 24 indictable charges.

Magistrate Leanne Scoines set a date of April 8 for the brief of evidence to be delivered.

Bail was not applied for and Mr Riddick was held in custody to reappear on March 15.
