Hot on the heels of his latest solo album, Peter Garrett and The Alter Egos will bring his signature sound to the Far North on the second-last stop of his True North tour.

Hot on the heels of his latest solo album, Peter Garrett and The Alter Egos will bring his signature sound to the Far North on the second-last stop of his True North tour at Tanks Arts Centre on March 28.

Garrett’s second solo album, The True North, is set for release Friday, March 15, after the first single, Permaglow’s release on February 2.

The former politician and Midnight Oil frontman said he was excited to be back on the stage, particularly in the Far North, a region he has visited many times.

“I was glad we could fit Cairns in because I’ve been in and out of Far North Queensland a few times and I love it up there,” Garrett said.

“I love playing the Tanks. I could write the tourist brochure.”

He said he was excited to take to the stage again, which he called his second home.

“It’s incredibly exciting for me and an absolute blast to find lots of songs, creativity and a real sense of excitement about getting out and doing some more playing,” he said.

“I said I wouldn’t do large-scale touring and thought to have a bit of a rest but the adrenaline didn’t stop, so I had to catch that energy.

“Songs were popping out of the sky; so you’ve gotta make the most of those moments.

“Of course the important, crucial and almost necessary next step is to play them to people.”

One of the songs on the set list is Permaglow.

“Permaglow is about being locked onto our screens and how we’re all connected to people in every corner of the world,” he said.

“We’re spending a lot of time on our screens at all ages, yet people, particularly in the cities, have never felt more isolated from the world around them.”

Along with his latest hits, Garrett said he would throw in a few Midnight Oil songs to the set-list.

“We’re not running off stage, we’ll be making every moment last as long as we can so there’s room for a few Oil songs,” he said.
