A new tavern including a sports bar, bistro and gaming room has been proposed for vacant land opposite the Smithfield Campus Village Shopping Centre.
Late last month a material change of use development application was submitted to Cairns Regional Council for a L100 McGregor Road, Smithfield.
The site is currently a vacant block of land.
The land is owned by Heavy Lex No 64 Pty Ltd whose directors are Stefano and Corina Paino.
Heavy Lex No 64 is also the applicant that has requested permission to build the tavern.
Included in the scope of the tavern, is a bistro with an inside dining area complemented by an alfresco area and children’s play area.
The proposed tavern has a floor area of 1465sq m in which the bistro, a gaming area and sports bar will be contained.
The proposal does not have the potential to cause any adverse impacts on the amenity of surrounding commercial or land uses, according to the development application.
“It is considered that the proposed development is an appropriate response to the site and, subject to the imposition of reasonable and relevant conditions,” the application reads.
Access into the proposed development requires new road to be constructed to the southern boundary of a future Lot 1 to be created through a current permit to reconfigure the lot.
The lot reconfigurement will also mean the proposed tavern will constructed on a lot that’s clear of a waterway that runs through the parent lot.
The proposed development plans to use existing infrastructure services including connection to council’s water supply, sewerage supply, stormwater disposal, electricity and telecommunications.
The development proposes 93 carparking spaces which includes four accessible parks.
Historically the site was a cane farm and later used as a palms trees nursery.
The application has been provided to the State Assessment and Referral Agency and Ergon Energy.
Mr Paino was contacted for comment however did not respond before deadline.
