A gap in the pet-friendly off-grid visitor market could be filled by a new tourist park proposed for sugar cane country on the southside of Cairns.
Cairns Regional Council has received a material change of use development application pitching the establishment of the new business at 312R Highleigh Rd, Gordonvale.
The proposed development will operate on a “leave no trace” basis, which requires all vehicles to be self-contained with power, fresh water, grey water and wastewater holding tanks on board, according to the application lodged by landowners Douglas Hussey and Amy Perkins.
There will no discharge of grey water from vehicles at the site.
A maximum of 10 recreational vehicles staying overnight will be permitted on site at any one time and a communal area and caretaker’s structure has been proposed for the site.
“The proposed tourist park provides an alternative accommodation opportunity, which responds to a ‘gap’ in the tourism market for a low scale, off grid, pet friendly park,” the DA reads.
The park would operate year round.
