Driver fatigue is understood to have been a factor in the death of a Mount Carbine mine worker killed outside Mossman last weekend.

Golding Contractors employee Andrew Hogarth was killed in a single vehicle crash last Sunday morning.

Police stated Mr Hogarth’s Toyota HiLux left the Captain Cook Highway and rolled down an embankment at the Cassowary Creek Bridge, 2km south of Mossman.

The 48-year-old Townsville man is understood to have been returning home after his shift at the EQ Resources owned tungsten mine at Mount Carbine.

He died at the scene of the crash

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash that happened at 5.45am on February 11.

Golding’s Mount Carbine manager Steve Page said it was a difficult time for loved ones of Mr Hogarth.

“It’s very traumatic for the family,” he said.

Mr Hogarth was the adored Husband of Laura. Proud and protective father and father-in-law of Amber, Andrew and Jade.

The departed mine worker was also the cherished son of Bonnie and George and one-of-a-kind Brother to Adam, Jennifer and Sharon, as well as being a friend and mentor to many, according to a funeral notice listed on February 21.

A funeral service for Mr Hogarth was held at the Woongarra Crematorium Chapel in Julago on February 22.

The death of Mr Hogarth followed a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of 20-year-old Cassowary Coast man Brendan Rigano on the Bruce Highway in January.

At the time he was the second person to die on Far North Queensland roads this year.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage is urged to contact police.
