Missy Higgins brings The Sound of White, The Second Act tour to Cairns

For the first time in her career, Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins will play the entirety of her hit album Sound of White, when she brings The Second Act tour to Cairns next year.

For the first time in her career Australian singer-songwriter Missy Higgins will play the entire album Sound of White live in Cairns.

Missy, who will take the stage at Munro Martin Parklands on May 11, said there were some songs she rarely played live and was excited to sing them on the night.

“It’s gonna be fun to work out some live versions of them for the show,” she said.

Missy said the show would be split in two halves, the first of which would feature new songs as well as obscure, B-side tracks from years ago.

“The band’s going to come on for the second act and we’re going to play The Sound of White in its entirety and also a few fan favourites as well. I’ve never done a show like this before,” she said.

Taking a trip down memory lane while organising her set list, Ms Higgins said she stumbled across an almost forgotten gem.
“I haven’t played Casualty for a good 15 years and to be honest, I’d almost forgotten it and then when we were writing the set list I was like ‘Oh my God, Casualty!’ So it’s going to be fun and it’ll be nice to see what the audience have brought to the songs over the years,” she said.

No stranger to the Far North, having recently performed at the Red Hot Summer Tour earlier this year, Missy claimed the region as one of her favourite places to visit.

“I’ve always loved the weather. I go to Broome a lot and (Cairns) is kind of on par with it. It’s so different to Melbourne where I grew up. It’s so beautiful and green, I love it,” she said.
“We’re a swimming band so we love to go to waterfalls and swimming holes, that’s one of my favourite things. The markets are fun to check out as well.”

Missy said she was looking forward to reliving “the good old days”.

“I guess it’s kind of paying homage to my past because it’s been a very big 20 years and such a rollercoaster as far as my career goes. I’ve made so many different albums and collaborated with so many different people and my relationship with music has developed over the years,” she said.

“I’ve think I’ve got enough distance from The Sound of White to really appreciate it for what it was and the places that it’s taken me. The impact people keep telling me it made on them, I’m just so humbled by that and I’m looking forward to revisiting that.”
