It is finally time to reveal FNQ’s cutest babies as voted by Cairns Post readers.
Maino Mene from the Torres Strait has been voted the Far North’s cutest baby boy while Kewarra Beach’s Miyala Mow has been named FNQ’s cutest baby girl of 2023.
Maino’s mother Donna Mene, from Mabuiag Island, said she was shocked to learned her little boy, now six months old, won the votes.
“I didn’t really share the post on Facebook. Some of my family knew about it. I didn’t expect for him to win,” Ms Mene said.
The youngest of five children, Ms Mene said one of his favourite things was playing with a little stuffed puppy.
“He usually carries a small puppy with a Christmas hat on that we bought at the shops,” she said.
Despite being snapped with a cheeky grin, Ms Mene said it was hard to get Maino to smile.
“Most of the time he’s serious. You have to jump or dance around to make him smile,” she said.
Miyala’s mother Alexis Mow said she was surprised to learn her now 10 month old daughter had won the most votes despite Miyala’s offline popularity.
“When we walk through the shops and that, everyone stops to look at her because of her big bright eyes. I didn’t expect her to win. There were a lot of very cute babies on the poll, but she took it out and we’re very happy,” Ms Mow said.
The youngest of two, Ms Mow said Miyala was generally a very happy little girl but was beginning to show her sassy side.
“She’s a sassy little girl when she wants to be and she’s got a little bit of an attitude, but she’s happy in general. She loves The Wiggles. Hokey Pokey is her favourite. She loves to watch them and gets excited to dance and clap,” she said.
“She adores her brother like crazy and gets very grumpy when he goes to school and then really excited to his face when he walks through the door.”
The competition follows FNQ’s cutest toddler, which ran earlier this year.
Gurwaris Singh Sheema was voted number one by Cairns Post readers.
