A mother who was nine months pregnant when she and her toddler were rescued from rapidly rising flood water at Holloways Beach has given birth to a healthy baby boy.

Holloways Beach mother Penny Fenner and her two-year old daughter Malia were saved from rapidly rising flood water entering their home by surf life savers, after putting a desperate plea for help to Facebook.

Ms Fenner was worried at the time the stress of the flooding would impact the birth of her baby, however little Sunny made his appearance three days after his due date.

A bright light in a dark time, baby Sunny was born on January 13 after a quick labour and delivery.

“It was a bit of a rush, my blood pressure was very high so I had to go into hospital and have an induction. He came very quickly after that,” Ms Fenner said.

“I’d had the name in my mind for a while but didn’t want to commit until I saw his face. It’s not something I had thought of before, but it’s perfect.”

Ms Fenner, who is staying with family in Kuranda said Malia was mostly adjusting to being a big sister.

“It’s a big adjustment for her being out of home as well, but she’s doing really well. We had a lot of family up for Christmas and now they’ve gone home, it’s time for these kids to get to know each other,” she said.

As the family continued to adjust to the new changes, Ms Fenner said she was still waiting on word from her landlord as to when they would be able to move back home.

“The owner’s keen for me to move back in, but doesn’t have a time frame yet. It all depends on the availability of trades being able to go in,” she said.

“In the meantime, my sister’s taking good care of us. Sunny has no idea what we’ve been through but it’ll be a good story for him one day.”
