A former pro boxer and renowned tent fighter is facing two drug trafficking charges.
The charges against Kolby Keegan Johnston, 34, of Townsville, were mentioned in Cairns Magistrates Court this week before Magistrate James Morton.
On seeing the file, Mr Morton asked if the defendant was Mount Isa boxing champion, “The Kolby ‘Kaos’ Johnston”, to which his lawyer replied, “yes”.
Mr Morton noted the charges were trafficking methylamphetamines.
“Gee whiz, he’s taken a bigger fall than Mike Tyson,” Mr Morton said.
No further details were read out to the court, and the matter was adjourned for further mention in to the Townsville Magistrates Court on March 25, where he will be represented by solicitor Anderson Telford.
Johnston did not appear in person, no application was made for bail, and he was remanded in custody.
Johnston was a super-welterweight southpaw fighter whose pro boxing record was nine wins, three losses. Five of the nine wins were knockouts.
He was also a renowned boxing tent fighter from Mount Isa, whose family has been involved in tent fighting for three generations.
