A toddler is fighting for her life in hospital after a near drowning in a small beach town north of Cairns on Christmas Day.

Emergency services were called to a private address at Wonga Beach in Mossman just before 8.30pm after reports a toddler had fallen into a pool.

The female toddler received life-threatening injuries after partially drowning on Wednesday December 25.

The child was taken to Mossman Hospital before being transferred to Cairns Hospital in the Queensland Government Air rescue helicopter.

It is reported she did not receive any traumatic injuries during the incident, but may have breathing issues due to the nature of the accident.
