A learner driver in his 30s allegedly travelling more than 40km over the speed limit with a blood-alcohol reading four times greater than the legal limit for an open licence driver is set to face court.
Officers from Cairns Highway Patrol charged a 31-year-old Manoora man following a traffic intercept at Bentley Park on June 31.
It will be alleged about 10.30pm, officers saw a Holden Captiva travelling at 123km/hr in an 80km/hr zone on the Bruce Hwy at Woree.
Police intercepted the vehicle on Supply Rd and allege the driver was on a learner licence and was not displaying L-plates.
They further alleged the supervisor in the passenger seat had a disqualified licence and was not able to supervise the learner driver.
The driver was subjected to a roadside breath test and allegedly recorded a positive result before he was transported to the Cairns Police Station and recorded a breath alcohol concentration of 0.207 per cent.
His learners licence was suspended and he was charged with disobeying the speed limit, did drive under the influence of liquor, and for learning to drive without a proper supervisor and failing to display L plates.
He is due to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on July 8.
