Additional child exploitation material on his electronic devices on November 18 after Cairns Child Protection and Investigation Unit detectives executed a search warrant and seized electronic devices belonging to Mr Norman on November 10.

Mr Norman applied for bail last year but was judged to be an unacceptable risk to the community and sent to Lotus Glen Correctional Centre until his next court appearance that was originally scheduled for Friday.

However his name did not appear on the Friday court list.

According to Queensland Corrective Service prisoner records, Mr Norman is now being held in the Townsville Correctional Centre.

It’s understood Mr Norman was not physically injured in the incident, no Lotus Glen inmates have been charged and the prisoner was transferred from Mareeba to Townsville for his own safety.

The school Mr Norman worked at sent an email to all parents and caregivers at the time confirming staff and students witnessed the arrest of Mr Norman on school grounds.

“First and foremost, I want to reassure you that we treat the safety and welfare of your children, our students, as our highest priority at all times,” the school stated.

A Queensland Corrective Services spokeswoman said the organisation was committed to the safe, humane management of prisoners in custody to protect Queensland communities.

“Queensland Corrective Services transfers prisoners between correctional centres when required to maintain their safety, and the safety of our officers and the wider prison population,” the spokeswoman said.
