BREAKING: Demolition of the historic Toowoomba Foundry has started to clear the way for the $43m Bunnings Warehouse.

Hutchinson Builders has started early works to demolish the Pattern shop, located along Ruthven St, and the Brooks shed, located along Bridge St.

During the main works there is a workplace health and safety requirement for lane and footpath closures as the structures are close to the road.

Hutchinson Builders will conduct the demolitions out of work hours to minimise traffic delays and congestion and reduce the safety risk to the public.

Bunnings general manager of property Andrew Marks said the builder was proceeding with planned demolition, as approved by the authorities.

He said the works were on track for completion at the end of September.

"A letter from the builder was sent to local residents in June to advise of the upcoming demolition works and make them aware of potential altered traffic conditions as a result," he said.

The works come after the former Rowlands Hotel on the corner of Bridge and Ruthven Sts was demolished by work crews early on August 15.
