Builder opens new business Sauna Boat Tasmania: a floating slice of paradise

Torn between home renovations or creating a business, Dan Bush and his partner Grace Saffin took a leap of faith to help Tasmanians and tourists chill out in a floating sauna.

Being a builder by trade, Mr Bush was excited to sink his teeth into the Sauna Boat Tasmania project.

“We both love saunas and getting out in the Tassie wilderness and just enjoying Tassie generally so I thought it was a perfect fit for us to try and start up a little business doing it,” he said.

“We wanted to set ourselves apart by having a boat and have a crack at that.”

Mr Bush said the bespoke design is rooted in Tasmanian materials for the ultimate experience.

“Saunas are getting really popular worldwide now and everyone’s clueing on to the benefits,” he said.

“The more saunas the better. The way you feel after getting out of one is just amazing.”

Saunas, which are hugely popular in the Northern Hemisphere, have a range of health benefits including improved cardiovascular function, improved immune function, improved sleep and relaxation and increased blood circulation.

Mr Bush said the Sauna Boat is looking like it will be the first in the Southern Hemisphere.

“It’ll be accessed off Oyster Cove Marina in Kettering so we are super lucky,” he said.

“It’s the only certified Level 3 Clean Marina, in the state with just a handful in Australia.”

Launching the boat in the Marina on Wednesday, the Sauna Boat will open to the public in April.

“We’re just at the end of the road finally and super excited to put it in the water and start sharing our little piece of paradise with everyone,” Mr Bush said.
