A woman has been arrested after allegedly stabbing a man with a pen after an altercation with another woman on a bus outside a busy Westfield in Sydney’s east.
Emergency services were called to a bus stop outside the Eastgardens Westfield in Maroubra shortly before midday on Saturday after reports of a stabbing.
Police will allege a 41-year-old woman and a 21-year-old woman became involved in an argument as the bus was travelling on Anzac Pde in Maroubra.
As the bus arrived outside the centre, police allege the older woman stabbed the younger woman with the pen.
A 34-year-old male passenger attempted to separate the woman but was also allegedly stabbed with the pen.
The 41-year-old was arrested at the scene before being taken to Maroubra police station where she is assisting with police inquiries.
NewsWire understands the fight is alleged to have broken out during an argument between the women over their heritage.
The parties are not believed to be not known to each other.
There is no ongoing threat to the community, NSW Police confirmed.
Police were on scene to collect evidence outside the Westfields in Eastgardens.
Both are receiving treatment for minor head injuries and both are in stable conditions.
The man went to a local GP for treatment while the woman was sent to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
The alleged incident sparked panic among locals on social media who voiced concern about their children being at the centre.
“This is so scary,” one woman said.
“My girls took (the) bus to Eastgardens for a movie.
“Never been so frightened and helpless when they call me scared, not know what was going on.”
