Woman arrested after man, 74, slashed by knife inside discount store

A woman has been arrested after a man in his 70s was attacked with a knife inside a suburban discount store.

A woman is in custody after a 74-year-old man was allegedly attacked with a knife while shopping at a discount store.

The alleged incident happened in the suburb of Moonee Ponds in northern Melbourne about 11am on Thursday.

The woman, in her 40s, was arrested seveal hours later and has been taken to hospital and will be interviewed when she is released.

Police were called to the Puckle St Reject Shop about 11am on Thursday.

The Herald Sun reports a man in his 70s was slashed on the neck in an apparent random attack.

He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The alleged assailant fled the scene. About six hours later police announced they had made an arrest.

A 46-year-old woman from nearby Kensington was arrested and taken to hospital.

She will be under police guard until officers can interview her.

Police want anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
