Teen killed after horror early-morning fatal crash
A family is mourning after a teenage boy was killed in a horror early-morning crash in Geelong and the 16-year-old who is alleged to have been behind the wheel has been charged by police.
A teenager has been charged with serious driving offences after he was allegedly behind the wheel of a vehicle involved in an early-morning fatal crash in which a 17-year-old died in Geelong on Sunday.
Emergency services raced to the scene at about 2am after a Mazda sedan crashed into a pole at School Road, Corio.
Despite efforts to save his life, a 17-year-old Geelong boy, who was the front passenger in the car, died at the scene.
The boy has since been identified as “JJ”.
“Your life was a blessing, your memory will be a blessing,” the boy’s family said in a statement, 7News reported.
“We will forever hold you close to our hearts.”
Both the alleged driver and a backseat passenger were treated by paramedics.
On Sunday, Victorian police charged the 16-year-old, who was alleged to have been driving at the time, with a string of charges, including culpable driving and dangerous driving cause death.
Police have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash
Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam to contact CrimeStoppers.
