Police allege a truck that crashed on a major Sydney road, sparking chaos, was carrying $6300 in stolen diesel.
Motorists were advised to expect heavy delays after the truck flipped on the M7 motorway about 8.30am.
The truck, which overturned south of The Horsley Dr at Horsely Park, was reportedly carrying 3000 litres of diesel.
NSW Fire and Rescue staff and hazmat crews were called in to contain the spillage.
In a statement, police said when officers arrived, the vehicle was unoccupied.
“Police have been told that two males, believed to be the driver and an occupant, left the scene prior to police arrival,” they said.
“There have been no injuries reported at this time.”
They now appealing for assistance in finding the two men, with the driver described as being in his 30s or 40s.
The man is described as being of medium build, last seen wearing a white cap, orange/black hi-vis T-shirt, orange/yellow shorts and grey shoes.
The passenger – a man believed to be in his 20s or 30s – is described as being of medium build and wearing a dark blue/black coloured hooded jacket.
Shortly after 11.30am, Live Traffic NSW reported that the crash had been cleared and delays were easing.
The agency had previously reported that one of two southbound lanes were closed because of a two-truck crash.
