The young pilot who died following a crash in Melbourne’s northwest had always dreamed of flying planes, his sister has revealed.

Jack Miller died on Tuesday after a light aeroplane he was flying lost control and crashed at an airfield on Aerodrome Road in Parwan about 11.20am.

Mr Miller, just weeks away from celebrating his 21st birthday, died at the scene.

His sister, Nicole Miller, has since described him as “caring” and “kind hearted” in an interview with 7NEWS.

“He’s just my hero, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have such an amazing brother,” Ms Miller said.

She said her brother had received his pilot license earlier this year, and that he died doing what he loved.

“(He was) always watching all the old war movies with the planes that would take off, he would soak up everything that he saw,” she said.

“Not many people can say they went out doing exactly what they loved doing.”

The young man was due to turn 21 in five weeks, with Ms Miller saying his family “would have loved” to celebrate with him.

“It’s going to be a really difficult day for everybody,” Ms Miller said.

Ms Miller added “nothing will ever fix the place he had in our lives”.
