Nomad Restaurant Group co-owner charged after allegedly displaying Nazi symbol at rally

People have slammed a well-known restaurateur on social media, after he was charged with displaying a Nazi symbol at a pro-Palestine rally.

The co-owner of the popular Nomad Restaurant Group has been charged with displaying the Nazi symbol during Sunday’s pro-Palestine rally in Sydney.

Alan Yazbek held up a sign with a swastika at the rally, with the sign appearing to compare Israel to the Nazis.

He also allegedly appeared to hold up a flag printed with “our boys in green and gold will win”, with the colours the same as those used by Hezbollah.

Mr Yazbek has since been charged with knowingly display by public act Nazi symbol without excuse.

In a statement to The Daily Telegraph Yazbek said “we’re in mourning”.

“So many of us have family in the region,” Yazbek said.

“Every loss of life is a tragedy. We’re in mourning.”

Mr Yazbek is set to front court later this month.

Many have taken to social media to slam Mr Yazbek over the charges, vowing to “never” eat at his restaurants again.

“Disgusting, offensive behaviour. We will NEVER be back,” one person commented on Facebook.

“Anti-Semitism should NEVER be on the menu. Disgrace!” another wrote.

“Love this restaurant up until today. won’t be coming back,” added another.

Nomad opened in Sydney’s Surry Hills in 2013, before a second location was opened in Flinders Lane in Melbourne in 2021.

A third restaurant was opened at the corner of Queen and Collins Streets in Melbourne in 2023.

“I love building beautiful spaces for guests to then create moments that will, hopefully, stay with them a lifetime,” Yazbek wrote on the Nomad website.
