A young mother is continuing to self-represent herself instead of hiring a lawyer as she faces a murder charge after her seven-month-old baby died, a court has been told.

Noemi Kondacs, 24, was charged with murder alongside her husband Reinhardt Bosch, 35, after their son Rhuan died at their Mount Samson Rd home in Yugar, northwest of Brisbane, on November 3, 2022.

Ms Kondacs was initially also charged with one count of torture until the Crown withdrew the charge and replaced it with a supplementary charge of failing to supply the necessaries of life in February.

The Crown will in court allege Ms Kondacs failed to help her son between April 11 and November 2, 2022.

During a brief mention in Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday, Ms Kondacs confirmed in court her decision to self-represent.

Justice Peter Callaghan told Ms Kondacs that he’d “encouraged” her “in the past” to seek legal representation but court proceedings must continue.

“We just have to keep it moving forward,” he said.

“As you’re making the choice you’re making, I ask you to continue to keep my words in mind.

“The matter will move forward now you’ve had opportunity to do things differently.”

Previously, Ms Kondacs told the court that she had chosen to “trust in the Lord” as her case progressed, opting to not hire legal representation as she heads to trial over the murder of her child.

Justice Callaghan adjourned the matter to July 11 for review, which will be heard alongside Ms Kondacs’ co-accused and the father of her child, Mr Bosch.

As she was led back to the cells, Ms Kondacs said “thank you” to the court.

Mr Bosch is also charged with the murder and torture of their son.

The South African-born youth carer is facing an additional charge of assaulting Rhuan with an offensive instrument.

Neither Mr Bosch nor Ms Kondacs have entered a plea before court.

Police will allege in court that Mr Bosch and Ms Kondacs prayed over their child’s injured body before phoning an ambulance on the day of his alleged murder.

Court documents stated Rhuan allegedly had “visible” injuries when police discovered the “confronting” scene when they arrived at the home.
