Man hospitalised after camp oven explodes on Qld beach

A man has been burned after a camp oven exploded on a popular beach in a tourist hotspot.

A man has been flown to hospital after he was injured in a camp oven explosion on a popular Queensland beach.

Emergency services were called to a property on Eliza Ave at Orchid Beach, K’gari (formerly Fraser Island) about 8.20pm on Wednesday after reports of an appliance exploding.

A man in his 20s suffered burns to his face and was flown in a LifeFlight rescue chopper to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition.

According to reports, the appliance caught alight and exploded; however, there was no fire and the gas was switched off, so no further action was required by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.
