A man has died after he was electrocuted and fell off the roof of a butchers shop in a tragic workplace accident.

A young worker has died after he was electrocuted and fell off a roof at a worksite in Sydney’s south.

Police were called to a house on Old Princes Highway in Engadine at 11.30am on Tuesday following reports a person had been injured.

Officers were told a man in his 20s was electrocuted while working on the roof of a butcher shop and fell to the ground.

He was treated by NSW Paramedics but died at the scene.

The young man has not yet been formally identified.

A second man in his 60s was injured when he attempted to provide first aid to the young man.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene but did not require hospitalisation.

Eight firefighters from NSW Fire and Rescue also attended the property.

The two crews were on site for just over an hour before their services were no longer required.

A spokesperson for SafeWork NSW said it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the workplace death.

“SafeWork NSW is responding to an incident in Engadine where a man has been fatally injured while working,” the spokesperson said.

“(The) investigation is ongoing and further comment is not available at this time.”

NSW Police confirmed they will continue to investigate the deadly incident before preparing a report for the coroner.

Officers have temporarily closed part of the Engadine Arcade as they continue their inquiries.
