A man has been charged after an alleged “vicious’ stabbing” of another man in a western Sydney kebab shop, with police further alleging he then tried to escape custody by climbing into the ceiling of a hospital.
The 42-year old male victim suffered several stab wounds to his head, neck and chest during the altercation, with police saying the alleged attacker slashed his own hand during the dispute.
Police say the alleged attack was completely random, with the victim just going about his day.
“It seems that it was totally random, and a very vicious attack on that male,” NSW Police Acting Superintendent Paul Tigner said.
CCTV footage in the area shows the alleged offender pacing around before leaving.
Police allege once his rampage was over, the alleged attacker got into a taxi and drove to a McDonalds 10 minutes away where he stormed a disabled bathroom to try and stop the bleeding on his own hand.
Police allege the man allegedly responsible for the stabbing left the shop before catching a taxi and entering a local fast food restaurant on Jersey Rd in Plumpton.
A 38-year old man was arrested nearby the McDonalds on Daniels Road at Hebersham, with the alleged weapon, a 25CM knife found snapped in half. Detectives said they found one part of it at the Plumpton Crime scene and the other near the Kebab store.
He was arrested in the nearby suburb of Plumpton and taken to Auburn Hospital for precautionary reasons.
Police further allege the man, 38, attempted to escape custody by climbing into the hospital’s ceiling.
Officers deployed a taser to take him back into custody.
Emergency services responded to a 42-year old man being stabbed at a kebab store on Dawson Mall in Mt Druitt at 8am Friday.
Paramedics treated the man on scene before he was taken to Westmead Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
He is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.
The 38-year-old man was released from hospital and taken to Mt Druitt Police Station, where he was charged with attempted murder, and escape police custody.
He will front Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
