A teenager has recalled the horror moment she felt everything was “exploding” after almost being struck by lightning during a bout of wild weather.

A teenager has recounted the horror moment she was struck by lightning after it hit her roof during a thunderstorms – saying it was almost akin to a seizure and she felt everything was “exploding”.

Bloom Kermode, 17, was scrolling on TikTok when a lightning bolt struck the roof of her home on the Sunshine Coast at 12.43am on Friday.

“There was this big bang and everything went white and my whole body started shaking – everything was exploding,” Ms Kermode told 10 News.

“Everything went white.

“Because I had my phone in my hands, the electric current went into me and my whole arm went numb and it felt almost like I was having a seizure.”

She said she was laying in her room and about to go to bed when it happened.

“Everything was on fire, so I was like ‘I need to get out of here’ and so I grabbed my dog and I was out, and I left.

“The roof caved in and my blanket was on fire, the side of my bed was on fire and all the ports had come out and exploded. Everything was flaming up and stuff.

“It was pretty shocking.”

Ms Kermode was one of the two women struck by lightning during the bout of wild weather early on Friday.

She was taken to Nambour Hospital with neck pain but in a stable condition.

Another woman had minor burns after lightning struck her home on Coutts Drive, Burpengary at 2.54am, but was in a stable condition despite minor burns.

This came after severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for South East Queensland on Friday Morning, following the Sunshine Coast being inundated by lashing rainfall.

The warning from the Bureau of Meteorology was issued for communities in Gold Coast, Coolangatta, Beenleigh, Jimboomba and Mount Tamborine.

“A surface trough is combining with an upper trough to cause thunderstorms and heavy showers in the southeast this morning,” the warning read.

Flash flooding occurred in various localities on the Sunshine Coast, including Mooloolah Valley, Crosby Hill Rd, Nambour and Neill Rd.

A man was taken to Nambour Hospital amid the flash flooding at around 3am, but was in a stable condition.
