A former Brisbane City Council election candidate disendorsed over his alleged failure to disclose concerning comments he posted online is experiencing “declining psychological behaviour” as he faces child exploitation and grooming allegations, a court has been told.

Police charged Brock Alexander, 26, on January 9 with two counts of possessing child exploitation material and one count each of using a carriage service to groom a person under 16 years of age and possessing/acquiring restricted items.

Mr Alexander had previously been selected as the LNP candidate for the Deagon Ward during the 2023 Queensland local government election.

However, he was disendorsed 11 days after confirmation when it came to the party’s attention that he’d allegedly failed to disclose things from his past, an allegation Mr Alexander denies.

His matter in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday was adjourned to March 21 to allow the full brief of evidence to be completed.

Mr Alexander’s solicitor, Douglas Anderson, told the court that he would likely seek a “reasonable adjournment” so his client could be assessed ahead of trial.

Mr Anderson said he held concerns about Mr Alexander’s “declining psychological behaviour”.

In court documents seen by NewsWire, police allege Mr Alexander knowingly possessed child exploitation material, namely computer generated images, and possessed a restricted item, namely two sets of restricted handcuffs on January 9.

Police will further allege that Mr Alexander used a carriage service, namely Snapchat, to communicate with another person who he believed to be under 16 years of age with the intent of engaging in sexual activity, according to the court documents.

Police will allege Mr Alexander communicated with the person under 16 years old from August 14, 2024 to January 6, 2025 at Brighton in Brisbane’s north.

Mr Alexander remains on strict bail conditions. He is not allowed contact or to communicate directly or indirectly with any child under 16 years of age, and he is not allowed within 100m of any school or public playground.

He is also prohibited from accessing the internet, except for education, banking, employment or communicating with legal reps, governments or utility providers.

During the 2023 Queensland local government election, the LNP disendorsed Mr Alexander as its candidate after the party discovered comments he had allegedly previously made online in Google reviews.

“The decision was made because of past comments that were not previously disclosed and do not align with our party’s values,” an LNP statement read.

Mr Alexander had previously said he didn’t think his Google review comments were relevant to his candidacy.
