Books designed for young children are being recalled over concerns they could pose a choking hazard.

Eight books from the Rainbow Road series by Make Believe Ideas have been pulled from shelves across the country after it was discovered the plastic rings that bind the pages can be torn free.

“If the binding rings are torn free, they can become small parts which can cause a choking hazard,” the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said in a statement on Thursday.

The books are sold nationally, both in store and online, in retailers including Costco, Amazon, Berkelouw Leichhardt, QBD, Booktopia, The Book Warehouse, Dymocks, Target, Kmart and David Jones.
