Flowers, skateboards and heartbroken messages have been left at the scene of a horror crash in Sydney’s Northern Beaches that killed a teen and left five others in hospital.

The six boys were travelling in the Toyota HiLux about 12.20am on Saturday when the vehicle left Cabbage Tree Rd in Bayview, slamming into a tree.

A 16-year-old, who was in the front passenger seat, died.

One local has described the chaos that unfolded shortly before they called triple-zero.

“It was all quiet and then there was a huge bang, two bangs,” they told the Saturday Telegraph.

“And then we heard him screaming for help. Like ‘help, help’.

“One got out of the car and was withering on the side of the road, another did the same and one boy was unconscious stuck in the car. That poor boy. He was so pale.”

The 17-year-old red P-plate driver was flown to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he is in a critical but stable condition.

“It was a chaotic scene … it appears two of the occupants had been ejected from the vehicle,” Northern Beaches Police Commander Superintendent Patrick Sharkey said.

Superintendent Sharkey said the four other boys were also taken to hospital.

One is 16 and three are 17.

Superintendent Sharkey said the boys suffered “serious” crush injuries, including leg fractures and other associated injuries.

“They were all young males from the Northern Beaches,” he said.

“The scene is still under investigation, and has only just been cleared, so it’s very early days.

Superintendent Sharkey said there were restraints for five people in the car.

“There’s a sixth person in the vehicle, so as to where those persons were positions, if they were in the cabin, that will be the subject of the investigation,” he said.

“There was rain last night, the roads may have been wet.”

Photos from the scene show flowers and skateboards in a makeshift memorial left at the base of the tree.

Messages of love and grief are written on the back of the skateboards, including one that reads: “Love ya mate, rest easy”.
