Bromage Rd, Abermain: Seven injured in horror crash in Hunter Valley

Two children are among those injured after a car crashed into a crowd while allegedly performing a midnight burnout.

A horror midnight burnout in the NSW Hunter Valley region has left seven people, including two children, injured.

Police were called about 12.05am on Sunday after the crash at Bromage Rd, Abermain.

A blue Subaru Liberty was allegedly performing a burnout in front of a crowd in the industrial estate when it lost control and crashed into two parked vehicles before striking bystanders.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, suffered facial injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains under police care.

An eight-year-old girl remains in hospital with suspected internal injuries, while a 10-year-old girl has been treated for minor injuries.

Two women, aged 25 and 31, were also taken to hospital,with the older woman being treated for a head injury.

Two men, aged 24 and 25, were also taken to hospital; the younger man has a fractured leg while the older man has been treated for a foot injury.

NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Dave Wardell said a group of people including adults and children were part of the crowd watching an illegal street racing event overnight.

“It is very, very concerning that we have got eight and 10-year-olds out at a street racing event at that time of night,” Wardell said.

“Certainly that will be part of our investigation.”

The area has been known for street racing meets and dangerous drivers, Wardell added.

According to NSW Police a crime scene has been established with an investigation launched.
