Armed man arrested after gunfire in regional Qld town

A man has been arrested following reports of gunfire at a regional property early Wednesday morning, triggering a large police manhunt.

A 25-year-old man is in custody following a major police operation in Kingaroy sparked by reports of gunfire in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police responded just before 4am after multiple gunshots were reportedly fired at a property on Arthur St.

A number of occupants were able to flee the home safely before officers arrived.

The incident prompted a large-scale emergency response, with nearby businesses locking down, access to Kingaroy Hospital restricted, and Saint Mary’s Catholic College closed for the day as a precaution.

“Our college, businesses and facilities in the area have been advised to close as police respond to the incident,” the school said in a post to social media.

Police launched a manhunt for the alleged gunman, who was believed to be armed and travelling in a black Suzuki Swift with false number plates.

Just after 1:30pm, the man was located and taken into custody by police on Foleys Rd at Goodger, about 15km south-east of Kingaroy.

Police confirmed the arrest on Wednesday afternoon, stating that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
