Former AFL player Cam Delaney has switched leagues in Geelong local football, making the move to Drysdale in a signing coup for the Bellarine grand finalist.

Delaney, who played six AFL games for North Melbourne before spending two seasons on Geelong’s list, had spent seven years with Grovedale in the Geelong Football Netball, booting 135 goals in 89 games for the Tigers.

Drysdale confirmed on Wednesday night that they had landed the 194cm key forward, joining his brother Tim who had been signed by the Hawks from Grovedale in early January.

Delaney, 31, will form a formidable forward duo with his former Geelong teammate Tom Ruggles, who bagged 67 majors to finish second in the BFNL league goalkicking last year.

The club also added Geelong Falcons graduate Flynn Chirgwin from St Mary’s, who played six games for Falcons as a wingman and half forward in 2023.

But they lost another former AFL player in Lauchlan Dalgleish to the Ballarat Swans after 60 games in four seasons with the Hawks.

Dalgleish played three AFL games for Essendon from 2013-2015.
