When best friends Louis Ramia, 8, and Cooper Spies, 8, had to come up with a costume idea for Book Week, the pair knew they had to match.

Dressing up as the robots from children’s book Ribbit Rabbit Robot, by Victoria Mackinlay, the Toowoomba Grammar students didn’t disappoint.

“Our teachers came dressed up as the frog and the rabbit, so we thought we’d come as the robot,” Louis said.

“I like the book because they are friends like us, but they also learn important lessons about not being selfish.”

But for 10-year-old Phoenix Bird, his aim was to step outside the box.

“I came as the Joker because the character isn’t a sheep – he’s not like everyone else and he’s got his own style,” he said.

“My grandma helped me with my costume and we’ve been working on it together since Book Week last year.”

Head of junior school Scott Campbell, who dressed as Harry Potter, said the annual event was to celebrate reading and encourage students to develop a love for reading.

“We’ve had two Queensland based authors visit the school and homework has been reading only this week,” Mr Campbell said.

“Teachers and students from 15 classrooms have also decorated their doorways to showcase their understanding of the short-listed books – they’ve all done a fantastic job.”
