Bellarine Storm’s number one men’s championship recruit has capped off a fine individual season by scoring the club’s MVP award.
Kavione “KG” Green, who joined the club this year from Wyndham, had an outstanding campaign in 2024, averaging 24 points a game (sixth in the championship) at nearly 50 per cent efficiency and 12 boards (first) this year as the Storm finished the season in seventh position.
Green broke scoring and rebounding records during the year, pulling down an incredible 31 boards against Western Port in Round 16, including 22 at the defensive end.
Meanwhile, Max Kos won the coaches award while Nathan Gronbeck was judged the most improved in the men’s program.
In the women’s championship, US import Bridgette Rettstatt won the MVP.
She averaged 17 points game at nearly 52 per cent efficiency and picked up an average of 13 boards a game.
The club said Rettstatt had been a huge addition as the team made the step up to the highest level, qualifying for the preliminary final in year one.
“Bridgette immediately fitted into the team and become a dangerous asset with her rebounding strength, speed and agility to leave opposition in her wake,” the club said.
Both Rettstatt and Green are in contention for the league’s MVP award, to be handed out on September 14.
Geelong product Olivia Virt was judged most improved while Charlotte Armstrong won the coaches award.
Meanwhile, in Youth League 2 Men, Mitch Smith was the “backbone and key play maker” for the Storm, averaging 17 points per game at a shooting percentage of 46 per cent, while averaging five boards (11th in the league).
“As one of the more senior players in the team, he led from the front, causing many headaches for the opposition with his speed and ability to score under pressure from both inside and from three point territory,” the club said.
Rising star and local product Lucy Howard was a “vital cog” in the championship-winning Youth League 2 Women team, averaging 17 points and nearly 10 boards a game.
She was both MVP for the season and in the grand final.
