Much to the delight of Townsville book lovers, an Aussie author is coming to town for a literary event in celebration of his latest novel.
Four-time Miles Franklin winner Tim Winton, known for reads such as Breath and Cloudstreet, has recently released his 11th novel entitled Juice, his first in six years.
Described as an “epic novel of determination, survival and the limits of the human spirit”, Juice is set in a future apocalyptic Australia and tells the story of two fugitives seeking refuge who figure out they aren’t alone.
Hailing from Western Australia Winton is the author of over 30 books, some of which have been adapted into television and film including Aussie kids book turned TV classic, Lockie Leonard.
The Aussie author is travelling to every state in the country to talk about his latest book, with many of the shows already selling out.
Hosted by Mary Who? Bookshop in partnership with the Foundation for Australian Literary Studies at JCU and publisher Penguin Random House, audience members will hear from the author about the making of his latest work.
Owners of Mary Who? Bookshop Katie and Zac Solari, who took over the business in May, said they were ‘thrilled’ to have Tim Winton coming to the city.
“It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to host an author of Tim Winton’s calibre here in Townsville,” Ms Solari said.
“Tim is one of Australia’s most-loved writers, and Juice is an extraordinary book – we know Townsville readers will be very excited to hear him in conversation.”
Tim Winton: In Conversation will be held at the Sir George Kneipp Auditorium at the JCU Townsville Campus on October 14, beginning at 6pm.
