TOOWOOMBA mayor Paul Antonio has backed The Chronicle's 100 Jobs in 50 Days campaign and said bridging the gap between employers and job seekers was key.

"When I stood for re-election I did so on the platform of creating long-term, sustainable jobs for our region," Cr Antonio said.

"Connecting job seekers with employers is an important part of the employment process, therefore I congratulate The Chronicle on this initiative."

He said future construction in the region put a green light on employment opportunities.

"With construction beginning on the Second Range Crossing, the QIC shopping precinct taking shape, and the raft of other developments being announced, what seems like almost daily, our job-creation prospects have never looked brighter," Cr Antonio said.

"That said, the council continues to advocate strongly to attract investment to our region, our focus at the moment, being the Melbourne to Brisbane inland rail link which will provide another serious injection into our economy both during construction and as a result of the opportunities created by greater connectivity with the Port of Brisbane."
