A delivery driver was left in the lurch after a man allegedly hijacked his truck when he got out to make a delivery in Broadbeach on Tuesday night.
The food delivery driver had stopped at an address at 10.10pm to make a delivery, and police allege an opportunistic thief got behind the wheel before the delivery driver could return.
Police allege the truck was then involved in a crash with a Toyota Hilux on Surf Parade a short time later.
The truck finally came to a stop on Charles Ave, where the alleged driver fled on foot, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.
A Victorian man was taken into custody on Victoria Ave, and was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving without due care and attention.
The man was due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
