Alice Springs Town Council putting on ‘furrever friend adoption day’ at Alice Springs Animal Shelter

One Red Centre council wants locals to help animals from the shelter find their new “forever home” – and they’ve given plenty of incentives to those looking to do so.

There’s never been a better time to adopt a new furry friend, according to one Red Centre council, who are hosting an adoption drive at the local animal shelter – where adoption fees for new owners will be waived.

The Alice Springs Town Council is hosting a “furrever friend adoption day” at the Alice Springs Animal Shelter this Saturday, August 3, from 10am to 1pm, and they’ve given plenty of incentives for wannabe fur-parents.

Aside from having plenty of four legged friends to come and meet and cuddle, the council says there will also be face-painting for the kids and a free barbecue on the day.

Further to the no adoption fee for pet owners, the council said anyone who adopted a pet on the day will only have to pay a $155 lifetime registration fee.

“This registration is subject to desexing your new friend,” the council said in a statement.

“To help with this, the Alice Veterinary Centre is offering a 20% discount for adoptions this Saturday, but you must book in your furry friend within four weeks of adoption to take advantage of this offer.”

The adoption drive comes after a rocky period for the shelter, which saw it enter administration before the Alice Springs Town Council took over management.

Council director of community development said all animals at the shelter were receiving “wonderful care” from the council rangers – but are now ready to find their “forever homes”.

“With no adoption fees, this is the perfect time to consider adding a new four-legged member to your family,” she said.
