TOOWOOMBA was smashed by strong winds overnight, with gusts reaching more than 80kmh.
It was blowing a gale yesterday, with winds reaching up to 53kmh during the day, but at 4am this morning winds peaked at 82kmh.
Today will be similar with gusts reaching 50kmh.
The maximum temperature is set to be 19 degrees with about 10mm of rain expected throughout the day.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Harry Clark said the strong winds were caused by an upper and lower trough.
"The trough pushing through the last few days has caused all the rain," he said.
"But there is a low pressure trough up north and a high pressure system off the coast of Victoria which is causing a tight pressure gradient which results in strong easterly winds.
"Toowoomba is high up enough that it is catching the flow.
"It is a pretty persistent weather pattern with showers and winds back today and tomorrow.
"But things will start to ease on Thursday and by Friday the rain and winds should have subsided."
