A 20-YEAR-OLD Toowoomba man who has already amassed a 10-page criminal history has been returned to jail after committing further offences while on parole.

Ishiah Nathan Carlyon claimed he had been picked up by four juveniles in a car stolen from a Kearneys Spring residence on May 9, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

A little later a police patrol spotted Carlyon driving the car, police prosecutor Nikola Prince told the court.

Panicked, he crashed the car and all inside had alighted from the vehicle and run off, she said.

The 20-year-olld appeared via video link from the prison to plead guilty to unlawful use of a motor vehicle, disqualified driving and failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

His solicitor Brad Skuse told the court his client from January to May had been doing his best to stay out of trouble but he got caught up with group mentality and accepted he had got into the stolen vehicle.

His client had endured a difficult childhood that included at times homelessness, drug issues and exposure to domestic violence, he said.

Mr Skuse said his client had already been in custody for 125 days while serving out a previous sentence.

Magistrate Kay Ryan sentenced Carlyon to nine months in jail but ordered he be eligible for release on parole forthwith and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver's licence for two years.
