Flowers were in full bloom and the streets of Toowoomba’s CBD were full as people travelled from across the state, country and globe to watch the Grand Central Floral Parade.
The iconic event was one of many at the weekend at part of the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers with more than 80 entrants in this year’s parade.
Husband and wife Shane and Kerry Pilcher have travelled from their Charters Towers home for the past five years to see the parade.
“We only missed last year because all the hotels were fully booked, so we thought ahead this time and hired a caravan instead,” Ms Pilcher said.
“It’s a fantastic event, and we always enjoy it.”
Woodford residents John and Sandra Field were also excited to see the impressive floats.
Meanwhile, Subar Mani, Rohini Devi, Reena Veigel and Kaliamma Goundar saw the parade for the first time, making the big trip all the way from Fiji.
Toowoomba Regional Council also welcomed international guests at the weekend including elected representatives and senior executives from the region’s Republic of Korea Sister City, Paju City Council and the Paju Performance Group.
“I’m positive that our region can attract more international visitors to the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and build on other trade and tourism opportunities that we can develop with our foreign guests,” Toowoomba Mayor Geoff McDonald said.
“Carnival is a special time of year when our community shows off the region’s spring bounty and shares these treats with national and international visitors.”
Celebrations continued after the parade concluded with several events across the region including Sideshow Alley in Queens Park and The Chronicle Garden Competition entrant displays.
