Soldiers from the 1st Battalion Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) will be stationed across Townsville shopping centres and Maccas drive-thrus this week, collecting donations for Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia.
As part of the annual Help Our Little Heroes fundraising campaign, members of the group will be asking locals to dig deep and donate for a good cause.
The initiative aims to support the more than 4,700 ill and injured children across North Australia who rely on RMHC North Australia’s five practical care programs each year.
Ronald McDonald House in Townsville has over 400 families stay with them each year while their children are in hospital and by contributing to this campaign the community can help make a significant positive impact on the families of children undergoing a medical journey.
The Townsville house offers 25 family rooms and four self-contained units looked after by staff, volunteers and after-hours caretakers, aiming to ease the burden of having to travel for medical care.
RMHC North Australia’s chief executive Jennifer Clermont said she was excited for the yearly campaign.
“RMHC North Australia is profoundly grateful for the extraordinary efforts of 1 RAR in raising funds to support families with sick or injured children,” she said.
“This campaign is one of the charity’s largest fundraisers of the year, and it helps us ensure our programs can be there to help our little heroes during their medical journey.”
