A man who police say called an Uber to try to get away from officers after allegedly crashing a stolen car was on bail.

The 31-year-old man is now facing 11 new charges, including two counts of committing an indictable offence while on bail.

He was arrested after a manhunt following a collision at speed between two cars at the intersection of roads in Ferntree Gully and Blackburn in outer Melbourne just before midnight on Tuesday.

A witness called triple-0 and told police the driver of one of the cars had run from the scene, south along Blackburn Road.

Police attended the scene, checked on the condition of the second driver and confirmed the dumped car had been stolen before taping off the area.

Local police and the dog squad attended Blackburn Road where they allege a ride-share car was seen leaving a nearby hotel carpark.

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers intercepted the car on Wellington Road after noticing a passenger in the back seat.

However, once again the man allegedly ran from the scene.

Officers gave chase and after a short pursuit on foot, a 31-year-old man was arrested.

He was interviewed by police, before being charged with several offences, which also included theft of a motor car, dangerous driving, failing to render assistance, possessing methylamphetamine and breach of bail conditions.

He’s been remanded in custody to appear before Moorabbin Magistrates Court on January 18.

The driver and passenger from the other vehicle involved in the crash were both taken to hospital for treatment.
