A new genuine off-roader has arrived in Australia to tempt larger families with a sense of adventure and an eye for a bargain.

Mitsubishi has launched a new tough looking off-roader.

The Japanese brand has revealed its new Pajero Sport GSR four-wheel drive, which rivals machines such as the Ford Everest and Isuzu MU-X.

Based on the workhorse Triton ute, the Pajero Sport GSR brings some styling tweaks to match its off-road pedigree.

The GSR variant will top the Pajero Sport range and is priced at $60,940 (before on-road costs).

Black exterior highlights including front and rear bumper garnish, radiator grille and roof rails, are joined by butch looking 18-inch black alloy wheels.

The Pajero Sport GSR comes with four-wheel drive as standard and has both high- and low-range gears.

This is further enhanced by four unique driving modes, one each for gravel, sand, rock and mud/snow.

Power comes from a trusty 2.4-litre turbocharged diesel engine that makes 133kW and 430Nm.

It can tow a max od 3100kg, which is below the 3500kg par for utes and ute-based SUVs.

The GSR is only available in a seven-seat layout. It seats are wrapped in leather accented trim with contrast silver stitching.

It also comes with several luxury features such as heated front seats and leather wrapped steering wheel and gear shifter.

An eight-inch central display is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is complemented by a premium stereo and in-built satnav.

Mitsubishi has kitted out the Pajero Sport with a wide range of safety equipment including auto emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot warning and lane-keep assist among others.

Mitsubishi has also lowered the entry price into the Pajero Sport range. Two-wheel drive versions of the more basic GLX and GLS are priced from $43,940 and $48,690 respectively.

The new variants land in showrooms this month.
