Tesla has made the world’s best-selling electric SUV even more affordable.

Prices for the new 2025 Model Y have been reduced by $4500 with the arrival of a standard, non-special-edition model.

As reported earlier this year, Tesla unveiled the updated 2025 Model Y in January and initially only offered the limited-edition Launch Series to customers. This special version included premium paint, upgraded wheels, a performance boost on the all-wheel-drive models, and several other additional features.

Now Tesla is offering a regular version that’s a $4500 reduction compared with the Launch Series.

The revised price for the regular model compared to the Launch Series reflects the removal of some luxury features.

Tesla’s 2025 Model Y comes with new bladelike lightning at the front and rear as well as a revised steering wheel with customisable buttons that make the car easier to live with.

Additionally, there are new aerodynamics, low-rolling-resistance tires, and a slightly larger battery for the RWD variant — now estimated at 62.5kWh, up from 60kWh.

These efficient upgrades gives the car a slightly increased WLTP-rated range, delivering a claimed 446 kilometres of range for the RWD and 551 kilometres of range for the Long Range AWD.

Performance has also been improved with the base Rear-Wheel Drive doing the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds – a full second faster than the previous model.

The Long Range model is 0.2 seconds quicker, completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds. This can be reduced further to those who opt for the Acceleration Boost software update, dropping it to 4.3 seconds.

Tesla’s promising its new overhauled suspension system will make for a softer and comfortable ride, which has been specifically tuned to absorb bumps more effectively.

This revised suspension not only enhances ride comfort but also contributes to a quieter cabin by reducing road, impact, and wind noise.

Pricing for the new model starts at $58,900 plus on-road costs for the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD), and $68,900 plus on-roads for the Long Range All-Wheel Drive (AWD) making it $4500 cheaper than the original Launch Series.

The new Tesla Launch Series Model Y arrives locally in May while the standard versions are due to commence in June.
