An Aussie woman has captured the moment after an American-style pickup truck crashed into a parked car, with the driver attempting to undo the damage.
Bridgette Ivana captured two men re-attaching the front bumper bar of a smaller sedan which, she said, their super-sized truck crashed into while apparently reversing into a parking space.
“I have literally just witnessed this f**king hero in this, no joke, giant vehicle sideswipe the car next to him and take the front bumper off,” she can be heard saying in the video as she records from inside her parked car.
She zoomed out to show the comparison of the two vehicles – all while the two men dressed in black inspected the damage and tinkered with the other vehicle their car had damaged.
“Now, my question being, is he going to leave a note?” she continued.
“Is he going to be like: ‘hey, my monster truck side-swiped your vehicle’.”
Another man in a blue shirt approached the vehicle and the two men inspecting it, but it was not the driver of the damaged sedan – he was, as Bridgette described, “part of the Tonka truck crew”.
“If I saw this … Tonka truck sideswipe my car and this (man) try and snap it back on …” she went on.
The video struck a nerve with fellow pickup truck owners, who said the issue was not the truck but the “person driving it”.
But others said the trucks may be fine and necessary for some but “not in the cities”.
“Australia doesn’t have the infrastructure to support these cars,” one commenter wrote.
“It’s all a my car is bigger than yours competition with their friends,” another wrote.
A third added: “And if you NEED a vehicle this big, you can also afford to have a small 2000s era hatch for trips like this!”
It’s not the first time these huge pickup trucks have incited backlash for causing carpark drama, with Aussies routinely taking to social media to call out obnoxious parking attempts.
Drivers of the large trucks have been papped and called out for overhanging car spaces in crowded parking lots, or on street parking, or taking up multiple spaces by parking on top of lines.
This latest controversy comes after Standards Australia proposed increasing the length of off-street parking spaces by 20cm to fit Australia’s growing cars – of which pickup trucks are the latest, largest, and most divisive evolution.
And yet, despite the outrage over them taking over the roads, sales of pickup trucks are up 50 per cent so far this year, thanks to features that come with their larger size, including larger towing capacity.
